Counsellors in Training must be at least 15 years of age by December 31, 2009. Applicants over the age of 18 should complete the Adult Leader application form.

This application is intended for volunteers only. If you wish to be considered for paid employment, please submit a letter of application and resume to Betty Stratton at the address on the next page. Paid employees must be at least 16 years of age by July 1, 2009.

Volunteers who apply to be Counsellors in Training at West Haven must go through a screening process which includes a questionnaire sent to references, a personal interview by one or more members of the Program Committee ( either at staff orientation or at another mutually agreed upon time), and provide a Certificate of Conduct. Upon receipt of this application, we will provide you with a letter stating that you wish to be a volunteer with West Haven. You should take this with you when you go to the RNC/RCMP and attach it to your application for your Certificate of Conduct so that you will not be charged the $25 fee.

Please name two references who could evaluate your suitability for a position as camp Counsellor in Training. The persons named should have known you for at least 3 years. They could be your Minister or another church leader, camp director, employer, teacher, or other community leader. Relatives may not be used.

Staff Training:

There will be training provided for all volunteer and paid staff. This is compulsory for all new Counsellors in Training and highly recommended for returning Counsellors in Training. There will be a fee of $25 for Counsellors in Training for this event, payable at the time of registration. This will be refunded following your first week as a volunteer. The orientation event will take place July 3- 4:30 pm - July 5 - 4 pm.

Prior to orientation there will be optional training events in first aid and canoeing . Registration is limited and participants will be accepted on a first come first served basis.

The canoe course will take place on site at West Haven at a cost of $55(accommodation and meals are included).If you indicate that you would like to participate in this course, you will be provided with a CRCA registration form and health form which must be returned by June 15th. The first aid course will take place at a time and location to be announced. The cost will be $55. You will be contacted prior to the start of the course(s) which you have indicated you wish to take.
