USING PORTABLE DOCUMENT FORMAT

Portable Document Format or PDF is a universal file format that preserves all the fonts, formatting, graphics, and color of any source document sent over the Internet, regardless of the application and platform used to create it. Normally documents that you send to the Webmaster by e-mail attachments in WordPerfect or Microsoft Word format have to be reformatted when copied to such HTML editors such as MicroSoft FrontPage or Netscape Composer.

The Webmaster has no problem with reformatting short documents, but reformatting long documents such as nominations reports or lengthy newsletters can take a lot of time.  Forms are also time consuming to reformat.

The advantage with PDF documents is that they always look exactly the same, for all senders and receivers of a document, regardless of the hardware or software used, and acts as electronic fax machines but with much higher quality and speed. They can be magnified by up to 800%, with no diminishing of quality. The file format is ideal for archiving, since the look and feel of documents is retained and the document size is compact.

All these advantages translate into faster, cheaper and less complex viewing, navigating, storing and printing, for church documents.

This web site will therefore be making increasing use of PDF.

Now, to read those documents you will need a PDF reader.  Adobe has a PDF reader known as Acrobat Reader which is supplied by Adobe free of charge. Click here to download your copy Adobe Acrobat Reader   When you have downloaded and installed Acrobat Reader it will automatically open PDF files for you when you click on the link that takes you to the file.

For more information contact your Webmaster or do an internet search on PDF.
