CELEBRATING UNITED CHURCH WOMEN
Hi Everyone:
I’m taking orders for the eagerly anticipated new book celebrating United Church Women. Don’t miss out … reserve your copy with me today.
Ordinary Heroes: Celebrating United Church Women
Edited by: Noelle Boughton
To help celebrate their 50th anniversary, the members of United Church Women (UCW) are launching Ordinary Heroes (March, 2012). Through the stories of the extraordinary women, the book recounts the history of the UCW since its formation in 1962. Some stories tell of raising millions of dollars for the Mission and Service Fund; some recount the “smaller” actions of serving a local need; other stories tell of the strength of these women as they led the way through decades of social change and embraced new causes for justice. In each story the four pillars of the UCW purpose—witness, study, fellowship, and service—have guided this amazing group of women whose overriding mission has been to love God and to love their neighbours. $20.95 tax included.

2012 UNITED CHURCH LENTEN STUDY/DAILY DEVOTIONAL
HI Everyone:
The Lenten season is starting to approach us and I am taking orders for the 2012 United Church Lenten Study. The book is listed below. Please let me know if you want to order one of these books.
I am Listening: Daily Devotions for Lent
Author: Betty Lynn Schwab
The power of this year's Lenten study is that the stories encourage us to examine our own experiences in the light of Lent's journey. We are encouraged to "listen" to our own hearts, pondering the lessons of our lives in the context of faith. Because the stories offered in the study come from such a variety of people and experiences, each of us will find many points of contact in our own experience…. As we do this, we find common threads of encouragement and hope amidst the stark realities of our personal and collective life.
This resource is exactly what many in our congregations have been longing for... simple, usable, but profound tools for spiritual deepening. Its focus on listening for God in the midst of the very real and very diverse human experience allows each reader to notice and to pay attention to the One who is longing to find home in our hearts. $13.60 Tax Included.
Thanks for taking the time from your busy schedule to read this announcement.

Hope you find this helpful. And feel free to spread this information to your networks.

CALL FOR STEWARDS
Apply to Serve as a General Council Steward
The 41st General Council will be meeting in Ottawa at Carleton University – on August 11-18, 2012. Many people will be volunteering to serve a variety of positions during this event. This includes a hard-working group known as Stewards. Stewards will be working on the floor of the meeting each day during the General Council. They collate materials, distribute documents, deliver messages, and serve as ushers. They fill a key role in assisting the work of the Council to flow smoothly. It is at times hard work, with long hours. But it is also an opportunity to experience the Council first hand.
Anyone who is able to move easily while carrying things, be on his/her feet (with some breaks) and work a long period of time is welcome to apply to serve as a Steward. Stewards are basically “on duty” all day. This may include the evening and even some late evenings!
General Council will be providing stewards with parking and meals. Stewards are responsible for the arrangement and cost of their own accommodation and transportation to and from the General Council. You may chose, at your expense, to book accommodation through us at Carleton University. The daily rate for accommodation is $60.00.
Ideally stewards will be available to assist with set-up on Friday, August 10, 2012. Orientation for stewards will be held on Saturday August 11 at 11:00 a.m.
Interested people should complete the below application form and send via email to ksmart@united-church.ca or fax to 416-231-3103 by March 23, 2012.
Further information will be forwarded to those selected as a steward for the 41st General Council by April 20, 2012.
The role of the Stewards is a “hands on” way of seeing Council at work and worship. Thank you for giving this invitation your consideration.
