DREAMS ALIVE!
Hello! This is a message from Gander's Fraser Road United Church. My name
is Jillian Waterman, I'm a youth from Gander that is very involved in the
Youth Group we have at our Church. For the past few years, many of the prayers
we use have come from a book called "Dreams Alive" edited by Carl Koch. It is
a collection of prayers and thoughts from Youth across America, that has been
very inspiring and helpful to us all. The prayers have helped us realize that
we are not alone in the problems we experience in our own lives or in the
faith that we have. I am currently working on a team that is organizing a
Conference called Worship Matters to Youth. We are working hard to put
together a lively and thoughtful weekend that will engage youth and those who
love them in dialogue about worship. We called it Worship Matters to Youth
because we believe it does... matter, I mean! The weekend will be held at Loon
Bay Camp from November 13-15, 2009.
During a planning meeting, I came up with the idea of making a
Newfoundland-based "Dreams Alive" which is where all of YOU come in. This
prayer resource would basically include a collection of prayers from YOUth
across our province. We hope to get enough prayers that touch on issues that
are important to all of us to create a book, that will have its opening sales
at our Worship Matters to Youth conference. So please, write your own prayers
and send them along. (If you are one of those leaders, parents, teachers, or
anyone else beyond the age of adolescence who love youth and know some who
would like to participate, please pass this request along.)
The prayers are not meant to be professional sounding; they don't need deep
inspiring words; the only rule is that they're from the heart. Whether it's
about getting through tomorrow, the environment, humour, your new dog, school,
friends, death, life, addictions, the options are endless. Get the message out
there, and help us to create a reference book for our Youth of Newfoundland
and Labrador! Send your prayers to: Jillian Waterman -
jillxo@hotmail.com or Rev. Steph -
revstephmc@gmail.com.
Or, add them to the Facebook site created as a discussion and gathering
place. We will assume that any prayers sent to us are free to include in the
book. Please don’t send prayers that aren’t your own originals... We don’t
want copyright trouble! If your prayer is used and you want a copy of the book
don’t forget to include your mailing address. Better yet, join us at the
conference for the Book Launch!
Thanks friends!
Jill
